Daily 5- Chapter 6

1. What are some ways for experimenting with words for learning and practicing a spelling pattern?
Last  year I had my kiddos use different manipulatives to work on words and their spelling pattern; like a big oil drip pan to use for magnetic letters, whiteboards, letter stamping...the kiddos really liked that one:) Also I bought these boards at Walmart that helped the kiddos with there letters, they used those as well:) Nursery Rhyme Poems...they had to find the letter we were working on that week...The kiddos also loved the computer games too...
If you know of any more good ones...comment please:)
 2. How often do you introduce new words? Do your students have their own lists of words that they can work on? How will you keep track of words that they already know?
I am still getting familiar with the curriculum in Kindergarten...it seems to me that they give to many words at a time for these kiddos to learn, so I have to look...I think I introduced a couple of words every week...I might slow it down though...last year some kiddos were behind because of all the words they needed to know...
I haven't thought of giving the kiddos their own list...maybe I will try that...I do like the system I used last year thought...The kiddos had a word a day tagged on their shirt and they had to practice that word all day...people would stop and asked what is that word and how do you spell it...I thought it really worked and I might keep with it...keeping track...I think I'll have an envelope for each child and when they know that word they put it in their envelope...for their achievement:)
Any suggestions...
 3. Adding to our knowledge and curiosity of unique and interesting words what is the best way to do this?
I would have to research this one...I'm not really sure about this one...
If any one can help me understand this one....

Other things to think about:
What materials would I like to get?
There is a long list of materials I would love to get for my word work section, but not enough money to get these things with...I did like the storage idea on Little Miss K blog from Micheals...might have to check that out...:) That will help with my organization:) I also like the idea about the letters from Lakeshore...I'll have to check that out too...:)
How will I store them?
I am going either storage bins or baskets...I'll see how things pan out when I get to the classroom...
Any trial or error want to be shared...:)
Where will students work?
My kiddos will work around the room, so they can feel comfortable with what they are working on...I want them to want to work on these things, and of course I have assign seats during normal times:)

Also in place of flash cards I use powerpoint to automatically run through the words.
