Daily 5- Chapter 2

1. Do you trust your students? How do you build this trust? Are you able to trust them and allow them to be independent throughout all aspects of your day? Are you going to be able to stay out of their way?
I know that you always have to build that trust with your students right at the beginning!! I've even realized if you do not build that trust, then that trust will be broken very easily, especially with 5-6 year olds...This was my first year teaching and I always told my kiddos what to do...never did I let them choose what to do, especially when it was center time...I have learned now that I will try to give them more independence this year to see how that goes...and hopefully I will stay out of their way:)
2.
How much choice do you give your students throughout the day? Do you go
over your daily schedule with your students or is it just 'posted' in
the room?
I really didn't give my kiddos a choice on what they were to do, especially when it came to center time...they had a choice on what book to read when we had extra time, but other than that not much at all...and I'm going to work on that more this year with the new group of kiddos:)
My daily schedule is posted in the room, we went over it in the beginning, but that was it...I like the idea of going over it everyday, maybe I will try that this year:)
3. How are you going to create that sense of community where students will hold each other accountable?
I am going to read this book and some other good readers this summer to try to get a grasp on understanding how to hold children accountable for what they do...I really need to try that this year!!

4. Student ownership in learning? How do you instill this in every child?
Wow!! Now that I think about it, especially with centers, there really was no ownership. The only ownership I had them do was on other things in the classroom...like keeping track of their things and making sure they new where their things went...I probably need to rethink that now:)

5. Stamina! How are you going to build stamina with reading? independent work? Will you use a timer? Will you set goals?
I have always used a timer and I will keep with the timer, because the kiddos never let me forget about it:) I think we should set goals together, I believe I did that last year with them, but not as good as I should have...I live and learn and I have learned a lot from my own happenings and from fellow teammates:)
